angora

Silky goat wool

Angora refers to the soft, silky fiber from Angora rabbits, or fabric made from it.

The fiber is prized for its warmth and fluffy texture: an angora sweater, angora yarn.

The term also applies to Angora goats (whose fiber is properly called mohair) and a long-haired breed of cat.

All derive from the old name for Ankara, Turkey. (Capitalized Angora is the historical city name.)
