V-formation
Migratory bird arrangement
A V-formation is an arrangement where elements line up in a V shape, with one at the front and others trailing behind on either side.
The term most commonly describes the flight pattern of migrating geese and other birds: A flock of geese flew overhead in V-formation.
The arrangement reduces wind resistance for birds behind the leader.
Military aircraft, football players, and marching units also adopt V-formations for tactical advantage.
