ski poles

Slalom balance aids

Ski poles are lightweight rods held by skiers for balance, propulsion, and turning.

Each pole has a grip at the top, a strap for the wrist, and a small disk near the pointed tip to prevent sinking into snow.

Cross-country skiers push with their poles for forward momentum; downhill skiers use them primarily for timing turns and maintaining rhythm.
