sidewalls

Lateral tire surfaces

Sidewalls are the vertical or near-vertical surfaces on the sides of something—most commonly tires, where the sidewall is the rubber between the tread and the rim: Check your sidewalls for cracks or bulges.

In skiing, sidewalls are the strips along the edges of a ski.

Pool tables have sidewalls (also called cushions or rails).

The term applies wherever walls form the sides rather than the front, back, or top of a structure.
