restrictor
Device limiting passage
A restrictor is a device that limits flow or movement—of air, water, fuel, or other substances passing through a system.
Plumbing restrictors reduce water pressure; engine restrictors cap airflow to limit horsepower.
The word appears in technical contexts where controlled limitation serves a purpose: The racing league requires a restrictor plate to keep speeds down.
