sense organ

Biological detection equipment

A sense organ is a body part specialized for receiving stimuli from the environment and transmitting signals to the nervous system.

The classic five—eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin—detect light, sound, smell, taste, and touch respectively.

Other sense organs register balance, temperature, pain, or body position: The inner ear contains sense organs for both hearing and balance.
