effector

Response-producing element

An effector is something that produces an effect or carries out a response.

In biology, effectors are organs or cells that act when stimulated by nerve impulses—muscles contract, glands secrete.

In robotics and engineering, an end effector is the device at the tip of a robotic arm that interacts with the environment: a gripper, welding torch, or surgical tool.
