con
Point against something
Con has two distinct origins.
One means against: the pros and cons of a decision.
The other comes from confidence—a con is a swindle that exploits trust, and to con someone is to deceive them: He conned her out of her savings.
A con artist runs such schemes.
Con is also short for convict: an ex-con.
As a prefix, con- means with or together: connect, congregate.
