dupe

Swindle a sucker

A dupe is someone who has been deceived or tricked, often implying they were gullible or naive enough to fall for it: The investors were dupes in an elaborate Ponzi scheme.

As a verb, to dupe someone is to deceive them, usually for personal gain.

In casual usage, dupe also functions as a shortened form of duplicate, referring to a copy or knockoff: This lipstick is a dupe for the high-end brand.
