Lindisfarne Gospels
Medieval illuminated Bible
The Lindisfarne Gospels is an illuminated manuscript of the four Gospels produced around 700 CE at Lindisfarne monastery on a tidal island off northeastern England.
It represents the pinnacle of Insular art, blending Celtic, Anglo-Saxon, and Mediterranean influences in its intricate carpet pages and decorated letters.
The manuscript is now held at the British Library.
