beatification
Path toward canonization
Beatification is a step in the Roman Catholic process of declaring someone a saint.
After investigation of a candidate's life and miracles, the Pope may beatify them, granting the title "Blessed" and permitting limited veneration.
Beatification precedes canonization, the final declaration of sainthood.
Outside religious contexts, the word occasionally appears as an elevated way to describe glorification or idealization of a person.
