fiends
Monsters from below
Fiends are demons or evil spirits, creatures of malevolent supernatural power.
The word extends to anyone wicked or cruel: The guards were absolute fiends.
More commonly now, fiend describes someone obsessively devoted to something: a fitness fiend, a coffee fiend.
This sense carries no real judgment—just intensity of enthusiasm.
