stator

Rotor's immobile partner

A stator is the stationary part of a motor, generator, or turbine—the component that stays fixed while the rotor spins inside or around it.

In electric motors, the stator typically contains coils that generate magnetic fields: The stator windings needed replacing.

The term contrasts with rotor, its rotating counterpart.
