reeducation camp
Forced ideological detention
A reeducation camp is a detention facility where political prisoners are subjected to indoctrination, forced labor, and ideological reform.
The term originated with communist regimes—Soviet gulags, Maoist China, Vietnam after 1975—but applies to any state facility designed to coerce political conformity.
The neutral-sounding name masks brutal conditions: Dissidents were sent to reeducation camps and never heard from again.
