thought reform
Forced belief change
Thought reform is a systematic effort to change a person's beliefs, values, and attitudes through psychological pressure—isolation, repetition, emotional manipulation, and control of information.
The term emerged from studies of Chinese Communist reeducation programs but applies broadly to coercive indoctrination: Survivors described the cult's thought reform techniques.
Also called brainwashing or coercive persuasion.
