forced confession
Involuntary guilty statement
A forced confession is an admission of guilt obtained through coercion—physical abuse, psychological pressure, threats, or prolonged interrogation designed to break down resistance.
Such confessions are legally inadmissible in most jurisdictions because they're unreliable: The conviction was overturned after evidence showed it relied on a forced confession.
The term also applies more loosely to any statement extracted under duress.
