reeducation
Forced belief correction
Reeducation is instruction intended to replace existing beliefs or habits with new ones.
The term carries sinister overtones from its use by authoritarian regimes, where reeducation camps subjected political prisoners to indoctrination, forced labor, and abuse: Dissidents were sent to reeducation facilities.
In neutral contexts, it simply means retraining: The program offers reeducation for workers displaced by automation.
