red cap

Railroad baggage handler

A red cap is a porter at a train station or airport, named for the red caps traditionally worn to make them easy to spot.

The term is primarily American and increasingly historical as the role has diminished: I handed my bags to a red cap at Union Station.

In British folklore, a redcap is a murderous goblin said to haunt ruined castles along the border with Scotland.
