black cap
Crowned European songbird
A black cap is a close-fitting cap, historically worn by judges when pronouncing a death sentence in British courts.
The blackcap (one word) is also a small European songbird with distinctive dark plumage on its head.
In cooking, black cap can describe desserts topped with dark fruit: black cap pudding.
