migrate

Move with seasons

Migrate means to move from one place to another, typically over a long distance.

The word applies both to animals that travel seasonally between regions geese migrate south for the winter and to people who relocate to a new country or area her grandparents migrated from Poland in the 1920s.

In computing, migrate describes moving data, software, or systems from one platform or format to another: we need to migrate the database to the new server.

The journey itself is called a migration.
