British Army
Crown's land forces
The British Army is the principal land warfare force of the United Kingdom, one of the oldest professional armies in the world and a key component of British Armed Forces alongside the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.
It has served in conflicts from the Napoleonic Wars through both World Wars to modern operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He served twenty years in the British Army before retiring.
The term distinguishes this branch from other Commonwealth armies and from historical forces like the Continental Army.
