propellants

Thrust-generating substances

Propellants are substances that provide thrust or force to move something forward.

In rocketry and aviation, propellants are fuels that burn to generate thrust: solid rocket propellants, liquid propellants.

In aerosol cans, a propellant is the compressed gas that forces contents out when the valve opens.

Propellant also appears as an adjective: propellant force, propellant charge.
