delta-v

Spacecraft thrust requirement

Delta-v is the change in velocity needed for a spacecraft to perform a maneuver—launching, changing orbit, or landing.

It measures how much "effort" a mission requires, expressed in meters per second.

A spacecraft's delta-v budget determines what destinations are reachable with available fuel: The moon landing required about 15 km/s of delta-v from Earth's surface.
