rocket engine

Thrust-producing aerospace motor

A rocket engine generates thrust by expelling propellant at high velocity, pushing the vehicle in the opposite direction.

Unlike jet engines, rocket engines carry their own oxidizer and can operate in space.

The two main types are liquid-propellant engines, which mix fuel and oxidizer from separate tanks, and solid-propellant engines, which burn a pre-mixed fuel cake.

The rocket engine fired for six minutes before cutoff.
