vectoring

Steering a course

Vectoring is directing movement along a specific path, especially guiding aircraft to a destination by radio instruction: Air traffic control vectored the plane to an alternate runway.

The term extends to any precise redirection of force or attention: The team is vectoring resources toward the new project.

From vector, the mathematical term for a quantity with both magnitude and direction.
