Colonial explorer's hat
A pith helmet is a lightweight hat with a broad brim and domed crown, originally made from the pith of certain plants.
Designed for tropical climates, it shields the head from sun and heat.
Once standard gear for European colonizers and explorers in Africa and Asia, the pith helmet now carries colonial associations and appears mostly in period films or as costume.
