keffiyeh

Middle Eastern headwrap

A keffiyeh is a traditional Middle Eastern headdress—a square cloth, often cotton, folded into a triangle and worn on the head, sometimes held in place by a cord called an agal.

The black-and-white checkered pattern became associated with Palestinian nationalism and solidarity movements: Protesters wore keffiyehs at the demonstration.

Also spelled kaffiyeh or kufiya.
