piston rod

Engine's linear linkage

A piston rod is the shaft connecting a piston to another moving part, typically a crankshaft or crosshead, transmitting the piston's linear motion outward from the cylinder.

In steam engines, the piston rod extends through the cylinder head to drive the mechanism.

The piston rod had worn and needed replacement.
