pushrod

Camshaft-to-rocker link

A pushrod is a rod in an internal combustion engine that transmits motion from the camshaft to the valves.

In pushrod engines (also called overhead valve engines), the camshaft sits in the engine block rather than the cylinder head, requiring pushrods to actuate the rocker arms above: The old V8 uses pushrods rather than an overhead cam.

The design is simpler and more compact but typically less efficient at high RPMs than overhead cam configurations.
