single-acting
Pushes one direction only
Single-acting describes a mechanism, typically a cylinder or engine, where force is applied in only one direction.
In a single-acting cylinder, pressure drives the piston one way; a spring or external force returns it.
Contrast with double-acting, where power applies in both directions.
The pneumatic press uses a single-acting cylinder.
