rodding

Clearing with poles

Rodding is the act of clearing a pipe or drain with a rod, pushing through blockages to restore flow.

Plumbers rod clogged sewers; chimney sweeps rod flues.

In another sense, rodding refers to driving or customizing hot rods: He spent his weekends rodding around town.

The word also appears in construction for inserting reinforcing rods into concrete.
