naves
Where congregations gather
Naves is the plural of nave, which has two distinct meanings.
The primary sense is the central, main body of a church where the congregation sits, typically flanked by aisles and extending from the entrance to the chancel or altar area.
The cathedral's nave could accommodate over a thousand worshippers.
The other nave, from a different origin, refers to the hub of a wheel—the central block through which the axle passes and from which the spokes radiate.
