Pedestals are bases or supports on which something stands—a statue on its pedestal, a sink pedestal, a pedestal table.
The word appears most often in the figurative expression put someone on a pedestal, meaning to admire them excessively or idealize them beyond what's warranted: She put her father on a pedestal until she learned about his past.
To knock someone off their pedestal is to expose their flaws.
