paramecium
Slipper-shaped protozoan
A paramecium is a single-celled freshwater organism, oval-shaped and covered in tiny hair-like projections called cilia that propel it through water.
Paramecia are common subjects in biology classes because they're large enough to observe under basic microscopes: We watched a paramecium divide in lab today.
Plural: paramecia or parameciums.
