field of view

What eyes encompass

Field of view is the extent of the observable world visible at any given moment—through eyes, a camera lens, a telescope, or other optical instrument.

A wide-angle lens has a broader field of view than a telephoto.

In video games, adjusting the field of view (often abbreviated FOV) affects how much of the virtual environment appears on screen.

The sniper scope's narrow field of view made it hard to track moving targets.
