ciliate
Fringed single cell
A ciliate is a single-celled organism covered in tiny hair-like projections called cilia, which beat rhythmically to propel movement or sweep food toward the cell.
Paramecium is the classic example.
As an adjective, ciliate describes anything fringed with such fine hairs: ciliate leaves, ciliate margins on a petal.
