parameciums

Pond water swimmers

Parameciums is a plural of paramecium, a single-celled freshwater organism covered in tiny hair-like cilia that propel it through water.

Parameciums are common subjects in biology classes because they're large enough to observe under basic microscopes: We watched parameciums darting around the slide.

The Latin plural paramecia is also used.
