waste
Barren, desolate land
Waste is something unwanted and unusable, often something left over from a process (industrial waste, food waste).
Wastewater has already been used, often in the disposal of human waste (that is, bodily excretions).
A waste is also a geographic area devoid of resources, or one that has been depleted of these.
To waste something is to use it unproductively or needlessly: She wasted gas by driving instead of walking.
To waste someone is to defeat them, tire them, or kill them.
