magnetic confinement
Field-trapped fusion plasma
Magnetic confinement is a method of containing extremely hot plasma using powerful magnetic fields, primarily in nuclear fusion research.
Because plasma at fusion temperatures would melt any physical container, magnetic fields create an invisible "bottle" that keeps the charged particles suspended away from reactor walls: Tokamaks use magnetic confinement to hold plasma at millions of degrees.
