Space Force
Pentagon's newest branch
Space Force is the branch of the United States military responsible for space operations, established in 2019 as the sixth armed service.
It handles satellite operations, missile warning systems, and space-based defense.
Members are called Guardians.
The name draws comparison to Air Force and invites jokes about science fiction, but the branch conducts serious military functions: Her son enlisted in the Space Force.
