thermonuclear
Extreme atomic heat
Thermonuclear describes reactions or weapons involving the fusion of atomic nuclei at extremely high temperatures—millions of degrees.
A thermonuclear bomb (hydrogen bomb) uses a fission explosion to trigger fusion, releasing vastly more energy than fission alone.
The term applies to processes powering stars and to the most destructive weapons ever built: thermonuclear war, thermonuclear device.
