federal land
Publicly owned acreage
Federal land is land owned by a national government rather than by states, localities, or private parties.
In the United States, federal land includes national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and military bases—roughly a quarter of the country's total area, concentrated heavily in western states.
The Bureau of Land Management oversees millions of acres of federal land.
