policing
Enforcing laws officially
Policing is the work of maintaining public order and enforcing laws, typically by police forces: community policing, aggressive policing tactics.
The term extends to any monitoring or regulation of behavior: the policing of language, self-policing among journalists.
To accuse someone of policing is to suggest they're being overly controlling: Stop policing what I eat.
