monte

Three-card street scam

Monte is a Spanish gambling card game where players bet on which of two cards will be matched first by cards dealt from the deck.

The term also appears in three-card monte, a street hustle where a mark tries to follow a target card shuffled among three—the game is rigged so the dealer always wins.

He lost fifty bucks to a three-card monte scam in Times Square. (Capitalized Monte is a name or part of place names.)
