machine shop
Industrial cutting workspace
A machine shop is a facility equipped with power tools—lathes, mills, drill presses, grinders—for cutting, shaping, and finishing metal or other materials.
Machine shops produce precision parts, repair equipment, and fabricate custom components: The prototype was manufactured at a local machine shop.
The term also applies to the department within a larger factory where such work occurs.
