reaming

Widening a hole

Reaming is the act of enlarging or finishing a hole with a rotating cutting tool called a reamer, producing smooth, precisely sized openings in metal or other materials.

The term extends to any aggressive boring or scraping action.

In vulgar slang, reaming refers to anal penetration, and figuratively to harsh criticism or exploitation: The boss reamed him out for missing the deadline, We got reamed on that deal.
