tailstock

Lathe's opposite end

The tailstock is the adjustable component at the end of a lathe opposite the headstock, used to support long workpieces or hold tools like drill bits.

It slides along the lathe bed and locks in position, with a center point or chuck that can be advanced by a handwheel: Extend the tailstock to support the other end of the spindle.
