alloying
Combining metallic elements
Alloying is the process of combining metals to create an alloy—a mixture with properties different from its components.
Steel results from alloying iron with carbon; bronze from copper and tin.
The term extends figuratively to any mixing that changes character: His idealism was alloyed with pragmatism.
Something alloyed is no longer pure.
