hulk

Stripped ship carcass

A hulk is something massive and unwieldy—originally the body of an old ship, stripped of masts and rigging, often used for storage or as a prison.

By extension, hulk describes any large, heavy object or person: The abandoned factory was a rusting hulk.

To hulk is to loom or move ponderously: He hulked in the doorway.

A hulking figure is big and clumsy. (Capitalized Hulk refers to the Marvel Comics character.)
