lava tubes
Molten rock passages
Lava tubes are natural tunnels formed when the outer surface of a lava flow cools and hardens while molten rock continues flowing beneath, eventually draining out and leaving a hollow passage.
These geological formations can extend for miles and create cave systems: Hikers explored the lava tubes on the volcano's slope.
Some are large enough to walk through.
